Do you pay attention to your ankles

We often forget about our feet and ankles when it comes to our yoga practice, even though they literally hold us up! Did you know that a lack of flexibility in your feet and ankles can cause neck pain?! I know, crazy. Our bodies are amazingly connected which is why it’s important to take care of each part. Especially the parts we often ignore. Wanna know whether you’ve got good ankle mobility? Do this quick test.

QUICK ANKLE FLEXIBILITY TEST:

  1. Using a measuring tape, measure 5 inches from a wall.
  2. Bring your big toe to the 5-inch (12.7 cm) mark.
  3. Slowly shift your knee forward, and if it touches the wall WITHOUT you having to lift your heel, you’re good! If not, those ankles need some TLC, stat!

Here’s a quick fix

  1. Grab a yoga block or some books and place them a few inches away from the wall.
  2. Put the ball of the foot onto your block or books, keeping the heel on the ground.
  3. Slowly shift your weight forward, using the wall for support, until you feel a nice deep stretch through the calf.

This is a great short-term fix, but if you want to really get into it and improve your ankle flexibility, join my Functional Flexibility course. We work on the feet and ankles (amongst other things) to help you improve your flexibility in only 15 minutes a day!
