Great suggestions Erin! I also like to do body scans during meditation. Focusing on bringing attention and noticing sensations throughout different parts of my body, helps me to focus on something and stay awake. Lots of times it also helps me realize when I’ve been working a joint (such as my wrists) too hard before pain occurs.

I second focusing the attention on doing a body scan and focusing on sore joints and muscles. I tend to do my meditation early in the morning when I wake up but I am still lying in the bed – a couple of years ago I would end up falling back to sleep, but it occurred to me that I probably needed the rest, and it was not such a bad thing to be so relaxed anyway. Now I have gotten to the point where I can stay awake even while I am still in bed, or I can meditate almost anywhere – although it is more challenging if there are loud noises nearby.

Thank you! I never thought of trying to meditate in the morning! The one that I can usually do OK without falling asleep is the 32 or 64 count one on my fingers. I even did that on takeoff a couple times, the first times that I flew in a long time. We did a walking meditation at a yoga retreat, and I totally loved that. But I ended up lapping the teacher around the inside of the studio, so I guess I need to SLOW DOWN! 😀

Thank you, although I woild like to ask about meditating before bed. I just started meditating ( and the PBYP) a few weeks ago, and I have found, for me anyway, that meditating for about 10 min before bed, then read a little has really helped me to sleep, at least it seems to. (Ive been doing the 30 day meditation challenge) Thanks for the great program.
