Q&A: How to be authentic on camera

Being authentic on camera is tougher than it looks. I’ve never felt natural being in the spotlight, so finding my authentic voice on camera is something I still work hard at accomplishing. I’ve gotten used to filming myself, but anytime someone else is operating the camera and turns it around on me, I immediately get uncomfortable.

Whether you want to do what I do, start a vlog, or your goals are simply leading you in the direction of making videos, getting comfortable on camera is essential. And trust me– no matter how bad you think you are, you CAN overcome your fears and find your true voice in this space.

Here’s a little about how I did it and a few tips on what you can do to be more sincere in front of people, especially on camera.

Enjoy!

Over to you! Are you a natural on camera or do you struggle with being authentic and relaxed?

Hi Erin, can I ask what you use to record your videos on? Thanks!

It’s funny, I am a teacher and feel very comfortable in front of a group of students, joking around, and being expressive and weird. As soon as you turn a camera on (to film a lesson) I am super awkward. I am always nervous that I will say or do something that is dumb and it will be recorded forever. In real life, people forget! These tips are really good, hopefully they will help me, too!
