Making 2019 Intentions STICK

Hey everyone!

It’s been a while since I’ve written up a blog post just to talk to you. I share classes and other bits of yoga stuff like that, but just something life related? It’s been a while!

Anyway, I wanted to talk about my 2019 Intentions & how I plan on making them stick so that my changes are lasting. In order to make your intentions really STICK, you need to have a plan in place for how you’re going to implement them. Anyone can say, “I’m going to eat better!” But what does that mean? How many days a week will you cook at home? Are there any ingredients you’re cutting out entirely? How about foods you want to include more of? Questions like these are what you should ask yourself to make sure the changes you make are lasting.

Here’s my process for setting intentions for the New Year…

Finish this round of PB Resolution with the rest of the community & then continue to strength train 3-5x/week while balancing it out with yoga. Be mindful about takeout! When I decide to get takeout dinners or lunches, make a mental note that I INTEND to do that instead of doing it out of pure laziness every time. When I’m more mindful with my choices around food, I tend to make BETTER choices more regularly. When I let myself get too lazy in planning, all mindfulness goes out the window and I lean on bad habits which become my new normal.

Take one day a week to step completely away from work and do something fun outside the house. We have the tendency to get super complacent with our schedules. We can easily work all day every day and then Netflix at night. We’re going to make a commitment to do something purely for leisure at least once a week so we disconnect from work and reconnect as a couple.

A couple years ago we started having “Church” on Sundays with some of our favorite digital resources. We found a church that streams online that we love, so now it’s about not skipping that Soul Hour on Sundays because we always feel better when we do it.

I’m the kind of person who NEEDS organization and cleanliness, yet so easily drop those habits when life gets busy. So instead of taking the 10 extra seconds to put the freakin’ clothes on a hanger, they end up piled on top of my dresser for 3 days. NOT THIS YEAR! I’m going to stay disciplined in keeping my space organized so my mind can feel clear and uncluttered too. I’m a huge believer that our space is a direct reflection of our internal state. If the outside is messy, the inside definitely is too.

Bad Yogi
Pretty self explanatory 😉 I won’t go super into details here, but we have a LOT underway for 2019 already. One of the biggest things I’ve struggled with is consistency, so I’m creating little processes for myself that will help keep me accountable to my goals. Using a Bullet Journal has been HUGE for my productivity and schedule organization. I added a section for creating a list of weekly to-do’s. I do a brain dump on Sundays for everything that needs to happen that week and then schedule in each day based on that list. It also keeps me accountable to the things on my list that repeat, like planning content for Bad Yogi Studio, the magazine (hi!), and social media.

Over to you! This is a little about what’s going on inside my brain for 2019 🙂 What are your intentions? What went really well for you last year? What changes are you making to have an even better one this year?

Bullet journals are just magical, if you use them in a way that is functional for you! 🙂

For 2019, I will continue my daily yoga & meditation practice. Following the completion of PB Resolution, I intend to strength train 2-3 days a week. I intend to take a hike once a month. I’ll maintain my healthy eating habit but with some fine tuning. I intend to be more consistent with setting boundaries for myself and letting go of my expectations for others. Oh, and I intend to make the mala from the mala kit I bought last year!

    Hmmmm-bullet journals…
    I never thought of that.
I have a passion / fear thing going on inside to journal / not to journal.
    Maybe….I could?

    * think over journaling in new ways.
    * try out a bullet journal for one week.
    * thank Erin for sharing.
