Yoga can be a great tool when your goal is to lose weight, but you have to choose your classes wisely.
For example, taking an hour long yin class might feel amazing, but if your goal is to lose weight, yin is not going to be the style that gets you where you want to to.
Instead, you want to build some heat with constant movement, strength building poses, and paying special attention to the poses that recruit the largest muscle groups (think standing poses!).
Not everyone’s goal should be to lose weight, but if YOURS is, that’s perfectly okay! That term gets a bad rap these days, but I think that’s only because it’s used by people who have bad intentions.
But I’ll step off my soap box 😉
Back to our discussion…
So, knowing what we know now, I’m going to leave you a few free classes below that you can use on your journey to lose weight if you’d still like yoga to play a part in that. Here’s a list of 16 yoga classes to help you lose weight. You can come back to this list anytime you want a class that falls in line with your goal.
Enjoy! And remember: you are allowed to love the body you have even while trying to improve your overall health and fitness. Those two things can coexist! You don’t have to hate yourself or your body while on a weight loss journey. So approach every class and every habit change with an intention of improvement, NOT resentment.
1-10. First up, the 10 Day Ab Challenge!

11. Crow Flow.
Challenge yourself in this one! It’s a tough class, but a great one to revisit every so often to see how you’re making progress in your strength.
12. Next Level Flow!
Another challenging but accessible flow, this one will keep your heart rate up AND give you some fun new things to try in your practice 🙂
13. Lower Body Workout for Yogis
It’s marked as an intermediate class, but I promise you can do this regardless of your experience. It’ll give you that good kind of burn and remind you that yes, yoga is definitely more than “just stretching” 😉
14. Shoulder Toner!
No, your shoulders aren’t the largest muscles in the body, but we can’t ignore them either! As we build strength in the lower body, it’s equally important to pay attention to the upper body, too. On your weight loss journey, it’s easy to get lost in one thing, but as usual, balance is key.
15. Yogi Abs!
Yup, more ab work! 😉 It’s just so satisfying! And you’ll see huge improvements in your overall practice and physical conditioning as your core gets stronger.
16. Let Loose!
A non-stop, fun flow is just what you’ll want to do some days! Not paying any particular attention to one body part or area, but making sure the whole body is balanced, strong, and well conditioned.
