Bad Yogi Community Popular

Welcome to the NEW Bad Yogi Blog!

Quick: Somebody cue the confetti and balloons and sound of champagne popping!

We got a makeover and you’ll be getting a lot more of what you LOVE to see from Bad Yogi, plus a few extras 🙂 I’ve always wanted the Blog to be a place where we can connect and talk to each other regularly, AND interact in a place that’s more conducive to real conversation than social media is, and THIS IS IT. So, here’s what to look forward to:

We’re having a digital Launch Party and of course, I have goodies for you! There’s a couple things to know about coming in to this weekend.

1) Friday February 5th: Giveaways!

We’ve added some brand new classes to the store (to include your highly requested 30-minute classes), and on Friday I’ll be giving some of those away to a few of you!  Winners will be picked throughout the day. There are two ways to win:

  • GIVEAWAY #1: Enter the giveaway by leaving a comment on THIS POST telling me the title of your favorite Bad Yogi blog post!
  • GIVEAWAY #2: Share your favorite blog post on social and tag me so I can see it!

2) Saturday February 6th: A coupon scavenger hunt & live chats!

There are “magic” words hidden in random places all over the blog, and they each apply to different things. AND it’s YOUR job to find them 😉 Once you find the phrase, click them and the coupon code is yours to use! And don’t worry– it’s not a one-time thing, so no matter how many you find within 48 hours (coupons expire February 7th), you can use them all!  Remember once you find the words, click on them to reveal the coupon code! (hint: all the words are bold and clickable)

  • COUPON HUNT #1: Find the words “In Love and Light” ($5 off any single digital class)
  • COUPON HUNT #2: Find the words “cookie sheet” (10% off all Bad Yogi apparel)
  • COUPON HUNT #3: Find the words “a most unlikely place” (20% off any digital class bundle)

  • LIVE CHATS @11am and 2pm EST:  Tune on to Facebook for a live chats at 11am EST and 2pm EST where I’ll answer questions and get your thoughts and opinions on all of this!

What’s New On The Blog?

Expect More from Me!
Yes! I’m going to be blogging a lot more regularly which will include more “real life as Bad Yogi” type things, yoga tips, classes, and interviews with some big-time influencers in the yoga, health and wellness industries. The first few are MAJOR, you guys, so keep your eyes open for those!

New Voices!
You’ll be getting to know some new voices here, too. Not just new voices, but new opinions. I want the blog to be a place where we can truly express ourselves without crazy judgment, even if that means we sometimes (respectfully) disagree with each other. And this isn’t a place for only “famous” people. We want to hear from YOU! If you’ve got a story to tell or something to add to the conversation, be sure to check out our guidelines over here, and submit your piece.

I have a bit more to say, but well, actually, you can just watch this video to get all the details… plus, totally against MY advice, The Frenchman included some highly embarrassing and awkward outtakes at the end for your viewing pleasure 😉

Over to you! Anything in particular you’re hoping to see around here?! What do you think so far?!
BadYogi_FacebookPS: Our original Bad Yogi Facebook is the same but we also started one for the Blog only. This way, you won’t miss a thing on all the blog’s latest controversy, inspiration, and “best of” posts. Don’t forget to give it a “like!”

An open letter to the bad yogi haters is my favourite definitely! I’ve been thinking about doing teacher training (when I can afford it) and my in real life teacher totally thinks I should, however someone else I know thinks I’m too fat and not good enough. Eurgh. No one needs to hear stuff like that. I’m a bad yogi and I have haters too!

That post had encouraged me to try again. Now i can balance at crow, i can’t hold it for that long, but we’ll get there. One step at a time.

The one I liked was “Instagram vs Real Life.” Obviously we are all working and practicing at improving our skills and I felt (like others I’m sure) like “professional yogis” have their poses down like a boss! On the contrary it is the opposite and it’s great to see a behind the scenes video of getting those shots and poses can be more tricky than the picture itself. It was great and I enjoyed it very much!! I don’t know if this was a blog or not but I saw it on your Facebook page about we all have cellulite, that was pretty bad ass of you to show beauty in a woman’s “imperfection.” We all struggle in a society where we’re all expected to be 5’7″ and 110lbs with flawless skin and a body built like a Victoria Secret model but we are not! We are mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, friends…we are women! And we are beautiful in every way!! ❤️

I really enjoyed reading “Breaking up with yoga & falling in love with my body”.
I have never had eating disorders (and I’m happy about it), but Amanda’s story hit something within me. Even if I have no ED, I still struggle with accepting myself all the time.
I’ve recently had a pretty bad period in my life (maybe the worst period ever, mentally). Now I’m out of it, but I sometimes fall back, and it hits hard.
But it is a process – my ‘recovery’, my yoga journey, my yoga teaching path -, it’s a process, a journey, with hills and mountains, ups and downs.
Becoming aware of it makes it easier to stay with it 🙂

Erin, I like this new blog! I’ll hopefully be able to submit something to be shared 🙂

It’s hard to pick just one, but I’d have to go with “21 WAYS I SAVED A LOT OF MONEY TO AFFORD TO TEACH YOGA FULL TIME.” When I first discovered you a little over a year ago, I was just amazed by your journey from being in a job you hated to one you love, and the risks you took along the way. It was – and still is – so inspiring to me!

I agree with a lot of people. There are too many good ones to choose from! But if I had to pick only one it would be “What’s Wrong with Instragram Yoga”.

Like many people, when I decided to give yoga a try (a real one and not a required gym classs try) I was nervous about it because I did not want to be that fat blob who can’t even sit right. And like all social media, once I tried it (and fell in love at my favorite yoga studio), all I saw was “yoga this” and “yoga that” but it was presented exactly in a way I did not want to see…the skinny minny, only 50 lbs when wet, high end yoga clothes wearing Nancy that was “perfectly” balanced on her head with “zero help”. I wanted to see the real people doing it. I wanted to see those like me or someone who is practicing realistically.

In fact, at first I almost stopped yoga because the Instagram yoga put very unrealistic expectations in my head. But once my friend referred me to Bad Yogi, I scrolled through the blog posts, saw this and re-started my practice again. I was not the only one who felt Instragram made it unrealistic!

I am definitely happy I kept up with my practice (almosta year now!) and that I can look at Bad Yogi for the redefined look and culture of what yoga really is.

My favorite has to be “Breaking Up with Yoga and Falling in Love with My Body.” Amanda’s story mirrors my own. Over the past 15-20 years I’ve had an on and off again relationship with yoga (on pretty solid for the past 3 or 4 years). From the beginning when I hid appetite suppressants and gagged myself every morning because it made me feel somehow in control of my body… to several years later in therapy, on thyroid pills, sleeping pills, and anti-depressants… to now off all meds and learning to love myself more and more as my practice grows. Amanda’s story affirms my own.

Breaking up with Yoga and Falling in Love with my Body.” It is helpful to hear others peoples transition through a process. I often tried yoga, here and there. I LOVED the 12-Minute Weight Loss Yoga in the Bad Yogi 7 Day Challenge! (Day 2) I hadn’t been to yoga in a while when I took that class, and it kicked my butt!

“Where does bad yogi come from” I love how you just put it all out there. You are so honest and real. Your example of working to accept yourself is so refreshing in a world that wants to out us all into the same mold. Love ya!

I started following the Bad Yogi blog this week after a friend suggested I try the 30 day challenge on In one week alone, I’ve fallen in love with everything that is offered to beginners. I think my favorite post thus far has been “Where does bad yogi come from” since I can really relate to it. I’ve tried yoga classes in the past several times and have also felt like an outsider to those that associate with yoga as being their identity. I can easily say this is the first time I’ve ever considered making yoga a part of my life and I have you to thank for that Erin! Keep up the amazing work!

I am not a big social media poster, but here goes. I really love everything! My go to right now that is helping me so much is the 7 day Challenge day 4 for tight hips. I play that one almost every day for my hips and lower back. I have also really liked (if liked is the right word) day 4 of the 30 day yoga challenge. I know that one was awhile ago, but it is an abs workout I can do around my injuries. I also enjoy the fact that you say your really feeling it too! Thank you!

I can’t remember the exact name of the post, but it dealt with “this is what failure” looks like. It was an awesome post, and very inspiring. As someone who doesn’t fit the “true yogi” model, it’s great to know that you can love yoga as separate from the rest of the “yoga lifestyle” and despite your not-so-perfect body. Rock on Erin!!!

I don’t know if I could pick a favorite! I really enjoyed THE STRUGGLE IS REAL: BEING A DANCER IN A YOGA WORLD. I did dance in high school and college and have to really dim the self competition and listen to my body where it is each day.

That is my favorite post because I can relate so heavily to the article. Yoga wasn’t’t easy for me in the beginning and I didn’t really see the effects, then it gradually showed with some strength here and the ability to hold a position a little longer than before. I slowly fell in love with yoga because it allowed me to improve my body and mind in ways I didn’t know I could or wanted to. The article was great and thank you for everything you guys do to keep bad Togo going and improving, very inspirational!

I loved the most ,,Q&A Wednesday: Where Did Bad Yogi Come From?” because it made me believe, that you don’t have to be super slim, super athletic or have a super balanced diet to practice yoga – you just need to be yourself and enjoy every moment you spend trying to feel better with your body (and I can eat sweets – that one is the most convincing 😀 just joking) XXX <3 <3 <3

We’re all at different levels, but your videos are always accessible. They make yoga possible and fun for real people and I love and appreciate your honesty with all of us! Keep doing what you do!

I loved your “21 Ways I Saved a LOT of Money to Afford to Teach Yoga Full Time”!

I fell in love with yoga about 3 1/2 years ago and have seriously been considering teaching part time after I finish my master’s degree in higher education. I am excited about my career in higher education, but I have never been able to shake the thought of also teaching yoga. This gave me practical ways to save up for the teacher certification program AND extra inspiration to make the leap. I can’t wait until I am able to start!
