Evidenced by me writing for Bad Yogi and all, I adore practicing yoga. Most of the time, I am on my mat every day and trying to live the yoga lifestyle in my day-to-day life too. But there are times that I just cannot for the life of me get on my mat. It’s easier to come up with reasons why I don’t want to practice that have some kind of rationale behind them.
Why? Well if you can convince yourself that there is a healthy and even smart reason to avoid doing yoga, you won’t feel as guilty. Sometimes they’re true and useful and other times… well other times, I just enjoy a good excuse to plop myself on the couch and binge Gossip Girl.
I need a rest day from doing yoga (a.k.a I’m sore and my body needs the rest).
Doing yoga will stress me out because my schedule is already too full and I need the extra time to chill.
Verdict: Ehhh, Maybe yes, Maybe no
I’m doing some other form of workout like HIIT or running.
Verdict: A+ Plus
It’s too cold to go to the studio and I’ll get sick if I step outside.
Verdict: Rationale needs work
I just ate and I can’t do downward dog because I’ll be sick (Two Hours Later: same rationale applies)
Verdict: Something seems fishy here…
Left my mat at the studio and don’t feel like going to practice.
Verdict: You know what, there’s something to be said for honesty!
What do you think yogis? Do you use any of these rationalizations to avoid your practice? Or do you have other ones that you like? Let us know in the comments below!
