I Tried It: CBD Oil (Biolief Review– with a coupon!)
CBD oil is all over the place lately, and the benefits it supposedly has are pretty impressive. I’ve been curious to try it myself, and when Biolief reached out and offered to send me some, I was super excited.
All experiences below are my honest reflections. I’m not making any recommendations and I think everyone should consult the laws in their State/Country, as well as their doctor, before making any changes to their health routine.
Alright, let’s get into it!
HEMP, CANNABIS & MARIJUANA (SLANG).. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
They’re from the exact same plant species – Cannabis sativa. It’s common to mistake hemp and cannabis unless you know why they’re different. If it’s under .3% THC content then it’s hemp and is classified as legal for academic and educational purposes, according to federal law. What is commonly referred to as cannabis (or medical marijuana) contains THC levels above .3% and can extend into levels between 15-30% THC. Remember, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive component of cannabis. Without these higher THC levels, there are no psychoactive effects for you. (source)
Since I wasn’t interested in vaping or smoking it, Biolief send me an oil tincture that you drop under your tongue or put in food/water to dilute the taste.
What I took it for:
– Anxiety (Important to note: I do not have an anxiety disorder, just your day-to-day anxiousness that happens when you’re overwhelmed, traveling, or working a lot)
– For sleep:
The first night I took this, I took half a dropper. I fell asleep in minutes and slept like the DEAD. Let me tell you, I woke up from the deepest sleep I’ve ever had and had some pretty intense dreams. I felt that was maybe a little too much for me, so I dropped the dose back to about a 1/3 of a dropper, and I felt much lighter. I still had amazing sleep, but my dreams were much less intense, which was nice. You just have to experiment to see what dose works best for you.
– For anxiety:
I can’t speak to how this would work for severe anxiety, but I did notice a decrease in my anxiousness levels when I took this.
The craziest part of both of those experiences is that I think it helped even when I didn’t take it every single day. So for example, I took the oil 3 nights in a row, and on the 4th and 5th nights I didn’t, BUT I still had equally high quality sleep. I’m not sure if it’s connected, but I didn’t change anything else. I’ve heard that CBD oil can have lasting positive effects even after you stop taking it, so maybe that’s what this was about!
Questions I had & others asked on social:
Will it show on a drug test?
From their website: “Most workplace drug screens and tests target delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and do not detect the presence of Cannabidiols or other legal natural hemp-based constituents. However, studies have shown that eating hemp foods and oils can cause confirmed positive results when screening urine and blood specimens. Accordingly, if you are subject to any form of drug testing or screening, we recommend (as does the United States Armed Services) that you DO-NOT ingest this product. Prior to consuming these products consult with your healthcare practitioner, drug screening\testing company or employer.”
Does it make you high?
Not at all! Like I said, I don’t smoke or use any form of cannabis at all, so if this was enough to get anyone high, that’d be me, haha! There’s no “high” or tipsy feeling at all. It dulls the intensity of anxiety a bit and you feel relaxed enough to sleep. But it’s very pleasant and won’t make you drowsy like even taking an antihistamine.
Will it help with chronic pain? Depression? Neurological disorders? Acne?
I personally can’t speak to that, I’ve heard *wonderful* reviews from people who’ve used it with great success for these conditions. I’m sure it varies from person to person, but I think the risk for trying is low if you’re interested in exploring a more natural alternative (under the guidance of a doctor, of course).
What’s it taste like?
Grassy. If you’ve ever had a shot of wheatgrass or a SUPER green juice, that’s kinda what this is, but super concentrated. It’s not delicious, but it’s also completely tolerable.
Is it habit forming?
Nope. I was nervous about this too because I almost NEVER take any medication unless it’s absolutely necessary. I don’t want to have to rely on anything. Even after getting such great sleep, I didn’t feel the least bit compelled to reach for it every night or even any more often during the day. I don’t think about it or feel like I crave it or need it at ALL.

There’s not a lot of products I’d say genuinely WORK or offer some benefit outside of the placebo effect. This is an exception for me. I really think this was helpful for me, especially when it comes to sleep. The last couple of months have been INTENSE in terms of work and stress, and this has been a useful tool for me to have when I need it. All that to say, it gets my thumbs up.
