3 Products I’m Using to Prevent Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are one of the most common badges of honor we take from pregnancy.
I really think if you’re going to get them, you’ll get them either way, and it’s really not a big deal. I’ve had them since I was a teenager on my hips and butt and they’ve never bothered me. I’ve heard some women say they did everything by the book during pregnancy and still got them, and I’ve heard some women swear they did nothing and got none. So who really knows, right?!
I also want to say that I don’t think there’s ANYTHING bad about them! If I get them, I’m shrugging it off. If I can help the elasticity of my skin for my own comfort, I’ll try to do that which is what I’m intending to do now 🙂
Aside from making sure I’m getting enough healthy fats in my diet (avocados, nuts, and the occasional fatty fish), I’m drinking TONS of water, and using a few products that are said to be good for preventing stretch marks and promotes the skin’s elasticity.
Here’s what I’m using and my thoughts on it so far.
1. Bio Oil.
This is one of those products that has a cult following here in France. Women SWEAR by it whether it’s for stretch marks, just keeping the skin healthy and moisturized, and even for healthy hair. Seriously, this is everywhere here! I apply this one right out of the shower when my skin is still warm and a little slick from the water. It absorbs within an hour or so quickly and smells great (but is a little perfume-y which you want to be mindful of if you’re put off by scents)!
I’ve had stretch marks on my hips since I was a teenager. And when I got pregnant I wanted to try using this on my belly, butt, thighs, and boobs to try and prevent new ones from forming. I’ve been slathering it ALLLL over as soon as I get out of the shower. The other day I was applying it and noticed the stretch marks on my butt that have been there for YEARS have actually started to FADE! I was SHOCKED. I moved to different parts of my house to experiment with the light just to make sure I wasn’t seeing things, haha. But nope– it’s the real deal. So now I swear by it and will be using this daily and through that “4th trimester” as my body re-adjusts.
2. Mama Bee Belly Butter.
I use this one at night (or whichever half of the day I don’t shower) because it goes on easier to dry skin than the Bio Oil. I’d read great reviews about this and since it was so affordable, I snagged a couple tubs of it online. I actually ended up squeezing a generous amount of pure vitamin E oil directly into the tub for an added boost and am LOVING how it feels. I put this ALLL over as well and with the vitamin E mixed in, a little of this body butter goes a LONG way. One tub of this Mama Bee Belly Butter has lasted me a whole 3 months!
The Bio Oil is amazing, but it stays slightly greasy for a little while after you apply. This Mama Bee Belly Butter absorbs right away so you don’t feel like a walking oil slick 😉 It doesn’t have any scent either, so if you’re sensitive to perfumes, this won’t bother you. I haven’t noticed any major differences, but it does a good job at keeping moisture locked in and I love the texture.
3. Vitamin E oil.
I mentioned mixing in Vitamin E oil and I just wanted to explain why. One thing I kept reading was how important Vitamin E was as an active ingredient in these kinds of products, but all the products with high concentrations of it cost a FORTUNE. I refuse to pay $50 for a bottle of oil that’ll last me a month. Just no. So I bought 2 bottles of organic vitamin E on amazon for about $15 and I think they’ll last long enough to pass down to my great grand children lol!
I’m barely into my second trimester, so I know I have a LONG way to go, but so far, so good. No new stretch marks and even a bit of fading on old ones 🙂 I’ll call this a win!
Over to you! Did you think about this when you were pregnant? Did you use anything that you swear by? What are your thoughts on stretch marks? If you’re interested in following along in my pregnancy journey, check out this first trimester recap, too!
